Fort Future Projects Coming Soon –
- Trails Expansion – 2027
- In partnership with the DNR, this project will expand Fort’s trail system by adding summer hiking trails and boardwalk access to Lost Lake – a place for quiet contemplation and Nature Center classes – while also extending existing horse and ski trails. When complete, the master plan will bring the total system from 10 miles to approximately 16 miles.
- Nature Playground – 2027
- A new nature-based playground nestled among the trees in the heart of camp will use natural elements to inspire wonder, creativity, and connection to God’s creation for a variety of ages and abilities.
Septic – In 2019, Fort presented a need to expand our septic capacity, as existing systems were deemed insufficient to support planned Fort Future construction projects. Subsequent engineering studies revealed the cost of a comprehensive new system, would significantly exceed the amounts raised. Engineering and design costs were $46,000. During this time, we also conducted enhanced water flow and septic analysis and in partnership with local authorities were able to complete plans to construct Fort Future facilities without adding septic capacity.
Building Maintenance Projects – While tackling large building projects, Fort also pursued smaller building additions, maintenance, infrastructure, and upgrades to program activities. Some of the highlights include:
- Infrastructure: Firewood storage building, on-site garbage compactor system, office space expansion.
- Maintenance and Property Enhancements:
- Bear’s Den – rebuilt railings
- Gathering Place – new stage lighting and sound upgrades, stone stairway from paver patio to Lowlands
- Inn Renovation – new roof, insulation, drywall, and decking
- Moonbeam – interior upgrades and new roof
- Dining Hall Renovations – carpet, sound tiles, deck awning, and new roof
- Dining Hall Equipment – new ovens, smoker, grill/griddle, and sound system
- Operations – maintenance van and skid loader purchased
Property Acquisitions: In 2020, Fort purchased 69 acres and frontage on Frick Lake adjacent to Adventure Outpost.
Campaign Fundraising, Administrative, and Events: Fort managed the campaign internally as it was important to do the campaign the “Fort way,” which also saved significant costs from use of outside fundraising firms.
