Living in Community
We seek to establish a community that is Christ-centered and founded in scripture. Our goal in TruNorth is to create a positive living, learning, and work environment so that the greatest good might come from your year. As you consider the commitment to being a TruNorth student, please evaluate your willingness to work with us in making your year one of positive growth.
Life-on-life
Community Night • Game nights, pool parties, movie marathons… The RA’s take turns planning a weekly activity for the group to participate in.
Group Meals • From the planning stage to the table, students come together each week to prepare a meal for the group.
Youth Group • Students get connected with the local church by serving Wednesday nights during youth group.
Chore Chart • Living together means cleaning together! To care for their living space well, each student is assigned a weekly cleaning task. Put on some music and scrub away!
What’s expected of me as a student?
Community Living
Those in TruNorth will live at camp alongside other students and rub shoulders with staff members. We seek to create a community based on Biblical ethics, believing it is the best way to love and respect those around us, and offering freedom in the relationships we share with one another.
Technology
No cell phones for a month?! In the first month of the program, you will experience a tech fast – no phones, laptops, social media, etc. Creating distance from technology will allow you to fully invest in the community and be creative with your time.
Work Standards
As part of the TruNorth program you will be given the opportunity to lead volunteer teams for Fort hosted camps during the year. In these roles you are representing Fort Wilderness to volunteer and camper alike. Students will be expected to engage in the warm, relational, and professional conduct Fort is known by.
Time Off & Holidays
TruNorth students typically receive one day off per week. Additional days may be granted on a case-by-case basis. Students should talk to the directors if more time off is needed. Holiday vacation is given for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break/Easter.
