God is speaking… are you listening?
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Summer Staff Resident Assistant Seth McKay never imagined he’d be working at a Christian camp in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. So when a buddy at his Colorado Bible school told him about Fort Wilderness, he kind of blew it off. Even still, he sensed the Lord drawing him in Fort’s direction, so he completed an application.
When Seth’s grandfather later asked him what he planned to do for the summer and he mentioned Fort Wilderness, worlds collided. As it turned out, his grandfather served at Fort many years ago as a volunteer, helping with cabin builds. Imagine the even greater surprise when Seth’s mom later shared that she attended a retreat at Fort when she was pregnant with Seth, and campers had voted on his name at one of the sessions! Before now, Seth had never even heard of Fort Wilderness, but from the womb, God had been weaving His story to bring Seth back for the summer of 2024.
Named at Fort, and now serving on summer staff. Who’da thunk it?
Only God.

Hearing His still, small voice… the Lord calls FIVE new missionary staff.
Isn’t it so exciting to recognize the ways the Lord is moving?
As He moves and speaks across the Fort family, we are thrilled to share five families who’ve recently heard the Lord call them to fill vacancies on missionary staff! PRAISE THE LORD! Over the next several months, we will take a moment to introduce you to each one and share just a bit of their stories.
Alyssa Eiden, Creative Arts Coordinator

When Alyssa first came to family camp as a middle schooler, she really didn’t like Fort Wilderness. However, when the COVID pandemic caused her to lose her job in 2021, she was redirected to serve on summer staff and then apprentice staff. Through her time serving, the Lord caused her to fall in love with the place and ministry of Fort, as He prepared her for the next step.
When plans began to fall into place for the new Happy Day Creative Arts Center, something in Alyssa’s spirit began to stir. Creative, organized, and gentle-spirited, Alyssa sensed the Lord calling her to use her teaching experience and creativity to lead the charge for the Creative Arts program. She felt hesitant and inadequate, but the Lord tenderly used the story of Moses to remind her of His ability to use us even where we fall short, and Alyssa answered His call. We are SO thrilled Alyssa has responded to God’s call and can’t wait to see how the Lord uses her in the years to come.

Men: Make space to hear God’s voice this fall!
While summer ministry is just getting underway, fall will be here in the blink of an eye. Registration is currently open for our 2024 Men’s Retreat, September 13-15! Each year, men from around the country gather to seek the Lord away from the distractions and stressors of everyday life. They hike, fish, eat, shoot, spend time in God’s word and good Christian fellowship and return home encouraged and equipped for whatever God has called them into.
“I found the peace of God in the camaraderie and setting that I needed in my life’s circumstance right now.”
– Men’s Retreat 2023 attendee
For this year’s Men’s Retreat, we are thrilled to welcome speaker Steve Sonderman, president and Founder of No Regrets Men’s Ministries. We hope you’ll join us as we gather together in God’s creation to hear from Steve as he opens God’s word for us to challenge, encourage, and equip you!

Hi there! Heather here!
It’s quite possible we’ve met in line at the CampGrounds, or maybe you’ve been run down by one of my redheaded preschoolers in the Dining Hall (sorry about that). My husband, Shannon, has served as Volunteer Coordinator the past 2 years, and we consider ourselves SO blessed to be part of the Fort Missionary Staff. Together, we have six adventurous kiddos and a whole lot of chaos.
A lover of stories, I especially enjoy hearing and sharing stories of how God is moving in and through His children. The story of my life turned a page this spring when God used His still, small voice to guide me to serve on the Fort staff in a new capacity. You can find me in the marketing department, assisting with copy writing, social media, and various other marketing tasks. Most notably, you’ll now see my face at the bottom of these emails, and I am honored to share with you stories of what God is doing here at Fort!
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.” (Ephesians 2:20)
If you see me at camp, please say hi! I’d love to hear the stories of how God is speaking, working and moving in your life!
Until then, for the Fort Staff,
Heather
