Lab

Hello Lab Parent!

Greetings from Fort Wilderness!

Summer preparations are fully underway here at Fort, and Leadership Lab is just around the corner. I (Gunnar) am looking forward to having your teen in the Lab program this summer. Our hope is that everyone who attends Lab has space to consider where they are on their journey, where they are heading, and whether they are in a true, abiding relationship with Christ (or if they want to be).

What to Expect

Lab is a relaxed atmosphere where we encourage everyone to develop personal goals for their walk with God and help them wrestle though questions they might have. To encourage conversations and community, as well as an awe for the Creator, we spend a lot of time in the outdoors with a canoe trip, a hiking trip, and a trip to Lake Superior.

Coupled with Bible studies, one-on-one talks, and sharing around a campfire each night, we touch on many topics of faith and truth in order to build students up in their walk with Christ. Please be praying for hearts and minds to be open to what God would have as we grow together in Christ and in friendships with each other.

Check In / Pick Up

Check in for Lab will be at Fort’s Main Site between 1:30PM and 4PM. Fort’s address is 6180 Wilderness Trail, Rhinelander, WI 54501. Our staff will be there to greet you. We’ll transport your teen to Lab from there. Please make sure that all your camper’s registration materials, Health History form & Risk form, fees, and insurance information are completed online as soon as possible. Your teen will also have to turn in any medications at check-in.

Pick up will be at Lab on Friday between 9:30-10:30 AM. Remember an I.D. will be required. Set your GPS to Timber Range Road, Rhinelander WI, 54501. Once you turn onto the road, you’ll see a sign and staff waiting to greet you.

Theme

The theme for 2026 is YHWH: The God Who Is.

We do not have a theme verse because all of God’s Word – from beginning to end – is revealing who God is. This theme is meant to help campers return to a foundational understanding of who God is.

Important Info

A few things to note:

  1. Laundry: The program is three weeks long and we don’t do laundry until the Saturday of the 2nd week because we are on a canoe trip for 4 days during the 2nd week, so bring enough clothes, but also remember that there is limited room in the cabins. Bring your own sleeping bag or bedding and pillow.
  2. Money: How much money to bring? There may be a few places to spend money while at Lab. We may stop at the Canteen or Campgrounds at Main Camp. We won’t hold on to your money unless you ask us to, I will remind you of that during the first day. The only other time you would have to spend money is for washing and drying clothes, so a roll of quarters would be a good idea.
  3. Clothing: We do some service projects for camp a few afternoons, so old clothes and work gloves would be handy. We have a special banquet meal the final night, so nicer clothes are encouraged, but you don’t need to go all out. Usually, Labbers and staff dress up a bit for dinner and pictures. You can find pictures on our website from past Labs to get an idea of what most people wear for banquet.
  4. Instruments: If you play guitar or any other musical instrument, feel free to bring it. There is a safe place to keep them since the cabins are quite full. Even if you are just learning don’t be afraid to bring them.
  5. Letters: Bring a Bible, notebook, pen/pencil, stamps, and envelopes if you are planning on writing any letters while at camp. You can certainly send to and receive mail from your student while they’re at Lab. Use Fort’s main address, listed above.

We are looking forward to the summer and have a great team lined up. I know this will be an awesome opportunity to have fun while growing together in our Christian walk. Thank you for entrusting us with your teen. We are grateful for the opportunity to love them, care for them, and point them to Jesus.

Blessings and see you soon!
