Undaunted Faith

by Gunnar Koehn

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1

We live in a world that is marked by utter confusion and rampant chaos. It’s hard to know who or what is trustworthy. Our current environment seems to promote lies, twist the truth, and reward those who sow half-truths. The world is desperately searching for something real, unchanging, and absolute, yet it seems we stray further and further from this each day.

As followers of Jesus, we choose to put our faith in Christ and his work on the cross for our salvation. A relationship with Him promises the solution to the seemingly endless search for meaning and truth. The Lord’s very character is marked by traits that are worthy of putting our faith in. God’s immutability is His unchanging nature. God is all-powerful- we call this His Omnipotence. Jesus refers to Himself as the Way, the Truth, and the Life in John 14:6. These traits are ironclad; they define God’s character.

What we believe about God is important. It defines our faith. Do we trust and believe that God is worthy of putting our faith in?  A.W. Tozer writes in his book Knowledge of the Holy; “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

God is not only worthy of our faith, but, as we see in Hebrews 11:1, we can use words like confidence and assurance to describe this faith. The world tells us nothing is certain, and nothing can be trusted. The Bible paints a contrasting picture of a faith-filled life. We can live totally undaunted by the chaos around us because of the confidence we have in our God who is supremely trustworthy, the origin of truth, and the author and perfector of our faith.
