The Beauty of a New Season

A distinct shift in the seasons has taken place here at camp this past week. Temperatures are rising, birdsong echoes once again among the pines, and the ice on Spider Lake has finally given way to the glassy water below.

It didn’t take the Fort staff long to trade our offices for long-awaited sunshine. Picnic tables became offices, laptops made their way to the beach, and meetings traded Zoom screens for hiking trails. After a long Northwoods winter… finally – spring is here!

Don’t get us wrong – we truly love winter. (You’d have to, to live here!) But long seasons have a way of stirring something deeper in us. They make you ache for change, for something new.

Even the birds seem to know: there is a time for everything.

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

This familiar passage reminds us that every season, whether we would have chosen it or not, has purpose in God’s hands. Winter is not wasted. Spring is not accidental. Each season carries its own kind of beauty, its own work, and its own invitation to trust.

And often, it’s only in the shifting of the seasons that we begin to notice how faithfully God has been at work all along.

For such a time as this: Clearly following His call!

We give thanks for the obedience of the Lehe family, giving their all here at Fort for exactly the right season!

Over the past several years, we’ve seen God faithfully bring the right people at the right time to accomplish His purposes. Steve and Jill Lehe are a clear example. As they follow His leading back to Indiana after eight impactful years, we’re deeply grateful for their faithfulness and lasting legacy. You can read more about their transition here.

Laura’s return offers strong leadership to the Fort Marketing team.

Many of you will remember Laura Borkenhagen, who first joined Missionary Staff in 2020 as Fort’s Marketing Manager. God brought her to Fort at such a critical time, and in the years that followed, He continued to use the Borkenhagen family in meaningful ways around camp from calling Billy to join missionary staff as Fort’s Campus Architect for the Fort Future projects, to the family serving together through Lumberjack Breakfasts and Junior Rangers.

After stepping away in 2023 to focus on caring for her dad and supporting her family, Laura is now rejoining our team part-time to once again lead our marketing efforts. We’re grateful for her thoughtful leadership and eager to see how the Lord will continue to work through her in this season.

One quick favor before you go…

Our next newsletter will look a little different – don’t miss a thing!

As we head into a new season here at camp, we’re making a small change behind the scenes – we’re switching to a new email system to better stay in touch with you.

If you don’t currently receive emails from Fort (or maybe it’s been awhile since you’ve seen one in your inbox), would you take a moment to subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of this post?

We’re grateful to stay connected with you – we love you, friends!

As we look ahead to the summer season, we’re grateful to walk together in faith and all that God has in store.

Trusting in His promises,
Heather
